Where you will meet it
In the engine room (at escape routes and watch stations), in the pump room, at entrances to enclosed spaces. The layout is shown on the fire control plan.
What it means in practice
EEBD: an escape breathing device with enough air for several minutes, to get out of a smoke-filled or gas-filled compartment.
Worth knowing
An EEBD is for ESCAPE ONLY. For entering a dangerous space (rescue, fire-fighting) you use the SCBA breathing apparatus from the fire station.
Legal basis
Annex to IMO resolution A.1116(30) (adopted 05.12.2017), table of emergency equipment location markings. Mandatory on ships built from 01.01.2019; older ships may carry signs per resolution A.760(18). Graphic pattern of the symbol: ISO 7010.
This is not a legal text: in any doubt the current wording of the resolution and regulations decides.
