Privacy Policy
Short version: the only personal data this site collects is what you choose to send us yourself, through the contact form or the optional feedback box after a test. No accounts, no advertising, no analytics scripts, no tracking cookies.
1. Contact form
If you write to us through the contact form, we store your name (if you give it), your e-mail address and your message, so that we can read it and reply. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering the messages we receive (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is stored with Cloudflare as our processor, is not shared with anyone else, and is deleted when your matter is handled. If you want a message deleted sooner, just tell us.
2. Feedback after a test
After a test you can leave a short message about whether it helped. It is optional. We store the text, the first name, rank and country if you choose to give them, your score on that test, the page it came from and the time; no e-mail address and no IP address. We read every message to improve the site (legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We publish a message on the site only if you ticked the consent box, and then only with the first name, rank and country you typed (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw that consent at any time through the contact form and the message will be removed. Unpublished messages are deleted within 12 months.
3. What else we process
- Your test answers are processed entirely in your browser. They are not sent to any server and your results history, if you use it, stays in your browser's local storage. We cannot see your score unless you type it into the feedback box.
- Completion counter. When you finish a test, your browser sends a single signal that a test was completed. It carries no identifier, no cookie, no IP address and no score; it only increases a number. That number is what we show as "tests completed".
- Technical delivery data. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard technical information (such as IP addresses) in server logs to deliver the site securely and prevent abuse.
- Cookies: we do not set any cookies for tracking, advertising or analytics.
- Offline mode. If you choose to save the site for offline use, your browser stores copies of pages and recordings on your device. Nothing is sent to us; you can remove the files on the same page at any time.
- Voluntary support. If you choose to buy the author a coffee, the payment is handled entirely by a third-party platform under its own terms and privacy policy. We receive the amount, the message you leave there and the name you give there, and never your card details.
4. When this policy will change
Everything on the site is free and there are no user accounts. If that ever changes, or if we add any feature that involves more personal data, this policy will be updated with full details before it launches, and where the law requires it we will ask for your consent first.
5. Who is responsible and your rights
The data controller for this site is Łukasz Skrzypczak, the Master Mariner who runs SeamanEnglish, based in Poland. For anything related to privacy, use the contact form or write via LinkedIn.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Poland that is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO, uodo.gov.pl), and you may also complain to the authority in your own EU country.
