Line-throwing appliance
Fires a thin line several hundred metres, to connect the ship with a vessel in need and pass a heavier line across.
Key facts
- The set has at least four rockets, each carrying the line at least 230 m in fair weather.
- The set includes at least four lines with a breaking strength of no less than 2 kN, and instructions or diagrams showing how to use it.
- The first, thin line then lets you haul across a stronger towing or rescue line.
- It is one of the few rescue communication devices that remain in SOLAS Chapter III.
