Where you will meet it
At the lockers with survival clothing, usually close to the embarkation stations and watch stations.
What it means in practice
Survival clothing: it protects against cold shock and hypothermia in the water. You put it on before boarding the survival craft in cold waters.
Worth knowing
In the LSA Code the specific appliances of this family are the immersion suit and the anti-exposure suit; the crew simply says „immersion suit” or a maker’s name.
Legal basis
Annex to IMO resolution A.1116(30) (adopted 05.12.2017), table of life-saving appliance markings. Mandatory on ships built from 01.01.2019; older ships may carry signs per resolution A.760(18). Requirements for the equipment itself: SOLAS chapter III and the LSA Code. Graphic pattern of the symbol: ISO 7010.
