Lifebuoy with light and smoke
- IMO code
- LSS008.1
- ISO 7010 number
- none (sign appears only in the IMO annex)
Where you will meet it
On the bridge wings, both sides.
What it means in practice
A lifebuoy with a light-and-smoke float, dropped from the bridge immediately on the „man overboard” alarm. The smoke marks the position by day, the light by night.
Worth knowing
The sign appears in the annex without an ISO number. The drawing follows the older IMO set, resolution A.760(18).
Legal basis
Annex to IMO resolution A.1116(30) (adopted 05.12.2017), table of life-saving appliance markings. Mandatory on ships built from 01.01.2019; older ships may carry signs per resolution A.760(18). Requirements for the equipment itself: SOLAS chapter III and the LSA Code. Graphic pattern of the symbol: ISO 7010.
This is not a legal text: in any doubt the current wording of the resolution and regulations decides.
