Telegraph key

Tap out a signal like on a real key. A short press is a dot, a longer one is a dash. Pause to close the character, pause longer to separate a word. We decode live what you sent.

The speed sets the dot-dash threshold and the length of the gaps. Slower means more time for every element. On a phone, tap the big button.

How it works

The key measures how long you hold. Shorter than half a dash counts as a dot, longer as a dash. When you pause for longer than the in-character gap, the page closes the letter and tries to read it. An even longer pause ends the word. It is the same rhythm you hear in the translator with playback: a dash lasts as long as three dots, and the gaps decide everything.

Can you already key a few letters? Check whether you recognise them by ear in the Morse quiz.
