Fire-fighter’s and escape equipment
Fire-fighter’s outfit
The kit in which a designated crew member goes into the fire: protective clothing, helmet, boots and gloves, a lifeline, a lamp, an axe and a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Key facts
- The personal equipment: protective clothing (water-resistant, protecting from heat, flame and steam), non-conducting gloves and boots, a fire helmet, a fireproof lifeline, a belt with a snap hook and an axe in a sheath, and an electric safety lamp.
- The breathing apparatus is self-contained, on compressed air: at least 1200 litres of air in the bottles, or at least 30 minutes of operation.
- The lifeline is fireproof, at least 30 m long, and clips with a hook to the harness of the apparatus, so a pull cannot drag the apparatus off the rescuer.
- The safety lamp burns for at least 3 hours.
- The crew keeps a fire axe and a crowbar with the outfits at the exits from the accommodation.
